Shopify help and edits for small shops.

Product pages, theme tweaks, collections nobody can find, and the apps that have been quietly charging you since 2023 for something you stopped using. Send me the link and tell me what needs doing.

Tell me what needs doing

Sounds familiar?

Shopify is built for shops doing serious volume, and most of the shops I help are not.

That’s completely fine. It just means a lot of the advice out there is written for somebody with a bigger catalogue and a much bigger budget than you have.

Product pages need restructuring

Rather than restyling. The information is all there, it’s just in an order nobody reads.

Theme settings will not go far enough

You want one small change and the customiser simply does not offer it to you.

Nobody can find your collections

They exist. They’re just not in the menu, or the menu has four levels and people give up.

Apps you’d forgotten about

Installed years ago, still charging every month, doing nothing you can point to.

Descriptions written for nobody

Copied from the supplier, or written in a rush, and identical to every other shop selling the same thing.

Checkout or shipping behaving oddly

Rates that make no sense, or a step in the process where people quietly disappear.

What I actually do on Shopify

Most Shopify jobs are small and specific. If yours turns out to need a proper developer rather than me, I’ll say so early rather than halfway through.

  • Product and collection pages. Restructuring, editing, and getting things into an order that actually makes sense to a customer.
  • Theme tweaks. The small changes the customiser will not give you, done carefully in the theme rather than bluntly.
  • Menus and navigation. So people can find what you sell without going back to Google.
  • App clear-outs. Working out what is charging you, what is doing anything useful, and what can go.
  • Product descriptions. Written for your customer rather than copied from whoever supplied you.
  • The SEO fields. Titles, descriptions, alt text and structure across product and collection pages.
  • Speed. Images, apps and theme bloat, usually in that order.
Nottingham Old Market Square and the Council House

Nottingham, and everywhere else

I’m in Nottingham, so a lot of my Shopify work is for small shops around Nottinghamshire, Newark, Grantham, Lincoln and Derby. Makers, farm shops, a couple of boutiques.

But none of this needs me to be nearby. Shopify runs in a browser, and most of the shops I help I’ve never actually visited. So if you’re further afield and you like the sound of how I work, get in touch anyway.

Why not hire a Shopify Expert?

For a big build, that is the right answer and I’ll say so. If you’re launching with two thousand products, or building something genuinely custom, you want a proper Shopify agency with a team behind it.

But the marketplace is built for shops doing serious volume. A hundred-product shop in Newark gets quoted like a hundred-thousand-product one, and the smallest project they’ll take on is often bigger than the job you actually have.

If what you need is a couple of hours on your product pages, I’ll just do that.

How it works

Three steps, and no project plan required.

  1. You tell me what’s wrongDrop me an email. A sentence is plenty, and a screenshot is a bonus. You don’t need to know the technical words for it.
  2. I tell you what it takesWhat I’d do, what it costs, and how long. If it’s quick I’ll say so rather than dressing it up into a project.
  3. I do it and you check itYou see it before it goes live. If it isn’t right, I fix it.

You get me, not an account manager and not a ticket number. And if your shop also needs help getting found rather than just tidying up, that’s what the AI visibility work is for. The two pair up nicely, but neither needs the other.

Questions I get asked

Can someone edit my Shopify store for me?

Yes. Send me the link and a sentence about what needs doing, and I’ll tell you what it takes before you commit to anything. Shopify lets you add me as staff with limited permissions, so you never need to share your own login.

How do I change my Shopify theme without breaking it?

Duplicate the theme first and work on the copy, then preview it before you publish. Anything beyond the customiser means editing the theme code, which is where things break if it is done in a hurry.

How do I find out which Shopify apps I am paying for?

Your app charges show in the billing section of your Shopify admin, separately from your subscription. It is worth going through them once a year, because most shops I look at are paying for at least one thing nobody uses.

Why are my products not showing in a Shopify collection?

Usually the collection conditions do not match the products, the products are not published to the right sales channel, or they are out of stock and set to hide. It is normally a five minute fix once you know which of the three it is.

How do I add SEO titles and descriptions in Shopify?

Each product, collection and page has an edit-website-SEO section at the bottom of its admin page. Left alone, Shopify fills them from your product title, which is rarely what you would have written.

How much does Shopify help cost?

It is priced per job, because a description rewrite and a theme change are not the same afternoon. You get the price before I start, and small things stay small.

Do I need a Shopify developer, or can this be done in the theme settings?

Often the settings will do it and nobody has looked properly. Send me what you want and I’ll tell you which it is, including when the honest answer is that you need somebody more specialist than me.

Who can help with Shopify in Nottingham?

That would be me. I work with small shops across Nottinghamshire, Newark, Grantham, Lincoln and Derby, and with plenty of people I have never met.
